The Beautiful Paintings are Damien Hirst's latest iteration of his famous spin format, whereby he would pour pigments onto his canvases as they spun, allowing colour interactions and chance movements.
These revolutionary artworks blur the boundaries between digital and physical art creation using machine learning algorithms. As a matter of fact, they are the result of a unique combination of generative options given on a database; whereby colours, styles, shapes, sizes, and mediums were merged to create unrepeated patterns. This means that each piece is a one-of-a-kind artwork that cannot be found anywhere else.
Known for their energetic splashes of colour, The Beautiful Paintings gave collectors the opportunity to generate personalised pieces by means of AI. This consisted of a variety of techniques including WEBGL shaders, Perlin noise and trigonometric functions, which were used to create paint layers that mirrored the defined yet unpredictable motion of paint as it moved across the canvas.
“ I have always believed that everything done well is art and there are no boundaries. For me, The Beautiful Paintings and the Spin Paintings are about that. No boundaries. Art that makes you go ‘wow!’ and you can get lost in it. „
