Longo’s epic narrative strength comes from his transformation of the intimate practice of drawing into the monumental scale of painting, elevating the medium to a scale never seen before. His drawings are so striking realistic that the viewer mesmerizes in front of them with strong emotions of fear, awe, proud. Bruce reminds us of a natural fear that most of us share, that of natural weapons in nature: sharks. The dramatically and intensified cropped figure leads the viewer in state of imminence as being about avoiding the inevitable denouement. The moment has been suspended, heart pounding, and the viewer is part of the building intensity of the action frozen in time lapse.
“ When I draw I take it into me. I look at it, it goes into every part of my body; it comes out of me. „
