Based in the remote mountains of Switzerland, Not Vital quietly yet prolifically creates surreal and conceptual works. His sculptures are primarily composed of plaster, bronze, marble, silver, and gold, and feature motifs of animals and the natural world. The artist often experiments with the relationship of materials to their surroundings; he once submerged an aluminum camel head underwater. The sculpture was only visible during low tide, exposing the work in a new light.

Not Vital

Painter, sculptor, designer, and architect Not Vital lives as though his life is a work of art, embodying the kind of eccentric and extravagant lifestyle made famous by artists before him like Salvador Dalí.

Vital is a modern day nomad who lives and works in various locations around the globe. His work is very much influenced by the surroundings of his different studios and by the notion of what is the sense of “home”. His many trips around the world have turned him into a restless searcher for the essence and its symbolic transformation into art of the locations he visited.

The limited edition portfolio titled 七 (the Chinese numerical symbol for seven) contains 7 archival pigment prints of Dali stone, a type of marble native to Southwest China. These marble compositions emerge in delicate greys and blacks, analogous to Vital's monochrome palette.
