Joana Vasconcelos' creative process is founded on the appropriation, decontextualisation and subversion of pre-existent objects and everyday realities. Reviling of an acute sense of scale and mastery of colours, Vasconcelos' works are full of energy that gravitate between reality and dream, the everyday and magic, the festive and the tragic. Pandora I belongs to the edition series derived from Vasconcelos's personal sketchbooks, which were carefully archived by the artist over a period of twenty years. The drawings from her sketchbook are akin to the catalogued ideas from the diary entires that tell about the process of creation, artwork, and events in Vasconcellos's life.
