Among the various man-made and nature's creations, wrapping bridges has always been an important subject that Christo, but also together with wife and artist-collaborator Jeanne-Claude, marked the foundation of their most celebrated series (as Christo and Jeanne-Claude). Wrapping the Ponte Sant'Angelo has been a dream of the artist(s), as it is the oldest bridge in Rome and it also connects the Vatican with the city of Rome. Since their proposition submission to proceed with the installation in 1967, this project remains unrealized. And for every project, because it takes years, you can see the early drawings and collages as just a simple, vague idea, and through the years and through the negotiations of getting the permit, you see that every detail is now clarified. Exploring the opportunities of wrapping a built-environment, the artist(s) offers the possibility to review it by applying a new appreciation of its form and volumetric qualities.
