White III-Ben Nicholson-1

Ben Nicholson has been one of the most distinguished pioneers of abstract art. On a visit to Paris in 1921, he first saw Cubist paintings and in the following years his still lifes showed a personal response to the standard Cubist repertoire of objects. Nicholson's exposure Picasso’s work, as well as the friendship with Braque and Mondrian, inspired him to incorporate abstract elements into his compositions, and soon to abandon representational art. Along with Russian sculptor Gabo, Nicholson published a Constructivist manifesto, after which he was praised for bringing the movement to London.

“ Realism' has been abandoned in the search for reality: the 'principal objective' of abstract art is precisely this reality „
